This position, under the direction of the building principal, will perform a variety of cleaning tasks requiring knowledge of cleaning tools, implements, chemicals, and practices. The custodian will ensure the physical plant is maintained in a clean and orderly condition so that the full educational use of the school building may be made at all times. The custodian will perform work activities that require cleaning the internal and external structure and performing routine building maintenance, maintaining the school building in a condition of safe operating excellence, and adhering to the district's maximum safety, health, and cleanliness standard.<br><br><strong>Essential Duties And Responsibilities<br><br></strong><ul><li>Work as a positive and collaborative member of the custodial staff to foster the primary cleaning and maintenance goals of the Colville School District and the Custodial Department.</li><li>Performs housekeeping and cleaning duties; special attention will be given to cleaning these areas on a daily basis: restrooms, drinking fountains, hallways, entrances, windows, public gathering places, and other areas as necessary.</li><li>Uses power equipment and hand tools such as broom, mop, squeegee, buffer, polisher, and vacuum as required for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, and furniture.</li><li>Helps with the setup, cleanup, and breakdown of lunchrooms, athletic events, community functions, etc.</li><li>Attends custodial meetings and serves on the building safety committee.</li><li>Available to work special events (graduation, athletic events, etc.).</li><li>Maintains building security at all times.</li><li>Maintains equipment.</li><li>Performs minor maintenance tasks requiring basic knowledge of mechanics, plumbing, carpentry, electrical practices, and grounds/turf management.</li><li>Maintains custodial closets, offices, and storage areas, keeping them clean, organized, and well stocked.</li><li>Performs snow removal and turf management when needed.</li><li>Performs minor maintenance as needed. List may include, but is not limited to, the following examples: replacing light bulbs, repairing desks and chairs, painting, etc.</li><li>Routinely checks building, grounds, and equipment to ensure proper maintenance and safety, and informs the Principal and/or Facilities Director of deficiencies.</li><li>Other duties as assigned.<br><br></li></ul>Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or designee.<br><br>(The duties listed are typical examples of the work performed by this job classification. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.<br><br><ul><li>The job is performed under conditions with exposure to the risk of injury and/or ordinary infectious diseases carried by students.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Required Qualifications<br><br></strong><ul><li>High school diploma, or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.</li><li>Must have skills, knowledge, and/or abilities pertaining to principles, procedures, and methods used in general building custodial/cleaning activities and minor maintenance activities, along with knowledge of cleaning tools, implements, chemicals, and practices.</li><li>Demonstrated ability to promote positive and productive working relations with custodial workers, building staff employees, students, and the public.</li><li>Demonstrated ability to supervise others and direct night custodians to ensure all areas of responsibility are maintained and cleaned to district standards.</li><li>Demonstrated ownership, organizational abilities, and ability to work well independently.</li><li>Ability to deal with difficult, stressful people/situations in a positive manner.</li><li>Must possess general knowledge of computers, carpentry, painting, and landscaping.</li><li>Ability to perform basic reading, writing, and arithmetic, and follow written and oral communications.</li><li>Must be in good physical health, capable of standing/walking without restrictions (capable of lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds).</li><li>Must have a pleasant, cooperative personality in order to communicate and work well with students, staff, and the community.</li><li>Must be willing to acquire specialized training for thorough understanding of installed systems.</li><li>A favorable report of a state and national fingerprinting background check is mandatory.<br><br></li></ul>Salary & Benefits Schedule<br><br>The position is year-round and includes a full, comprehensive benefit package with medical, dental, vision, life/AD&D, long-term disability, and more.
