This Legal Analyst position is based in San Ramon, CA and Houston, TX is part of the Law Function Corporate Capability Team. The successful candidate will primarily provide commercial, business, and transactional legal support for Chevron New Energies (CNE) and Chevron Technology Ventures (CTV). This will include supporting one or more of the CNE business lines: Hydrogen; Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS); and Offsets and Emerging. The successful candidate will also provide support for CTV work and partner with other business clients and law colleagues across the enterprise to support renewable fuels and other energy transitions or lower carbon related work.

The successful candidate must be able to perform delegated paralegal tasks under the guidance and direction of attorneys, including:

  • Prepare and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements all based on consultation with business partners and review by attorneys
  • Be the primary point of contact for business clients on designated issues and matters and liaison with attorneys
  • Support the execution of strategic transactions, including deal strategy, due diligence, structuring, drafting and negotiating of transaction documents, supporting negotiations, closings and integration for a spectrum of M&A, strategic alliance, commercial and joint venture transactions
  • Provide legal support, risk mitigation, and advice for CNE’s business lines, including on strategy development, corporate affairs and communications, supply chain, permitting, compliance, regulatory, advocacy, and operational matters
  • Establish value adding processes and playbooks, and drive efficiencies in legal and governance support in support of CNE’s businesses and ventures
  • Train and help clients establish systematic ways of addressing legal and compliance matters
  • Share lower carbon transactional, policy, and regulatory knowledge with other attorneys and law professionals
  • Partner with various subject matter experts and enterprise law groups (e.g., tax, finance, intellectual property, environmental and safety, international project management, business units) to ensure best practice and knowledge sharing, policy alignment, and full, efficient coverage.
  • Work with outside counsel on significant transactions, policy, regulatory matters
  • Engage and provide recommendations (risk analysis) to business partners and attorneys on counterparty’s changes to legal terms in agreements
  • Analyze and summarize documents for review by business partners and attorneys
  • Perform legal due diligence and legal research
  • Multi-task and prioritize work assignments to consistently provide high-quality work product in a fast-paced work environment
  • Work closely with business partners and attorneys to resolve a variety of day-to-day issues and support a broad range of commercial transactions and/or projects
  • Recommend process improvements and simplification of tasks
  • Communicate clearly, simply, and directly
Required Qualifications:
  • Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program or a law degree from an ABA-accredited school
  • Minimum of five years’ experience as a paralegal negotiating and drafting commercial agreements
  • Experience with full transaction lifecycle work from early origination to execution
  • Experience in new energies or energy transition matters
  • Strong organizational, analytical, proofreading, editing, and research skills
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter who shows initiative, creativity, and thrives in a team-oriented environment and partners effectively with management, business partners, in-house counsel, outside counsel, and staff
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Mergers & Acquisitions experience
  • Ability to effectively analyze and communicate legal issues across broad functional and organizational lines
  • Ability to maintain high quality performance with varied deadlines and competing priorities in a fast-paced work environment
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of tools

  • The anticipated salary range for this position is $112,200 – $192,600 . The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on their skills, experience, and qualifications.
