Summer Intern - Engineering

About the position

Responsibilities

• Assist with inspection, maintenance, and repair of UP's track, signal, and/or bridge infrastructure.
• Coordinate engineering activities with transportation operations.
• Assist with managing material and production costs, supervising work crews.
• Review and analyze minor structures using department-developed computer applications.
• Assist with direction of construction site activities to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
• Monitor distribution of work materials, project timeline, and budget.
• Assist on projects from design to implementation, including writing specifications and modifying designs.
• Learn and work with basic hardware used in control systems and provide engineering assistance in troubleshooting.
• Perform administrative support for department business group managers.
• Develop and execute project action plans and perform team assignments.

Requirements

• College credits equivalent to one year toward an undergraduate degree
• GPA of 2.8 or higher
• Basic time and project management skills
• Valid driver's license
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
• Basic organization and prioritization skills
• Proficient verbal and written communication skills

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with engineering software or applications
• Knowledge of construction site activities
• Familiarity with signal systems and processes
